George Tan

George Tan is an Associate Professor of Industrial and Systems Engineering at the University of Houston, with a joint appointment in the Cullen College of Engineering and the Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine. He received his Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from North Carolina State University in 2015. From 2016 to 2024, he served as a faculty member at Texas Tech University. Tan’s research focuses on Intelligent Biomedical Manufacturing, specifically the development and optimization of advanced manufacturing technologies for biomedicine enhanced by artificial intelligence. His work has applications in engineered human tissues, polymer micro/nanofibers, multifunctional alloy implants, antimicrobial catheter coatings, and lab-on-a-chip devices. He has been recognized with numerous honors, including the National Science Foundation CAREER Award, the Junior Investigator Research Award from the Biomedical Engineering Society’s Advanced Biomanufacturing Group, the Innovation Award from the TechConnect World Innovation Conference, and the President’s Excellence in Engaged Scholarship Award from Texas Tech University, among others. To date, Dr. Tan has published 41 refereed journal articles, 20 conference papers, and two book chapters.
